Steven M. Smith is executive vice president, survey operations, responsible for all of Arbitron’s survey operations for both the Portable People Meter and diary-based radio ratings services, including accountability for successfully completing the roll out of the Portable People Meter to the top 50 markets. Steven joined the company in August 2008.
From 2003 to 2006, Steven was the executive vice president, North American Operations for Information Resources, Inc., a global, market research firm serving the consumer goods industry. In that position, which he held from 2003 until 2006, he directed the teams that gathered and analyzed point-of-sale data from over 35,000 retailers and a standing panel of 70,000 consumers. His organization also presented findings to retailers’ marketing research teams to guide product development, launch, promotions, and decision-making. He joined Information Resources as senior vice president for operations in 2002.
In 2006, Steven became Chief Operating Office of Flexi-Mat Corporation, a national designer, manufacturer and importer of pet products in Plainfield, Ill. Most recently, he has exercised his piloting skills, honed from an 11-year career with the U.S. Air Force, as a senior pilot and pilot instructor with Executive Express Aviation, West Chicago, Ill.
Steven served in the United States Air Force from 1982 to 1993.
Steven graduated from Golden Gate University in San Francisco with a Master of Business Administration degree for Management. He also graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in General Engineering and International Affairs.
Steven works out of the Columbia office.
